Good writers vary their sentence patterns by sometimes placing phrases or clauses at the beginning of their sentences. The twenty Thanksgiving-themed sentences in this exercise all begin with the subject and the verb. Teach your students to rewrite sentences without changing their meaning to achieve sentence variety.

Race to the “Sum”mit is a math game in which the student reviews and practices addition facts up to 20 while trying to be the first one to reach the “Sum”mit. Included in this resource are two game boards; one for problems where the sum rolled is 2-12, and one for problems that have 10-20 as the sum. Complete directions, suggestions, and adaptations for the game as well as two Race to the “Sum”mit game boards are part of this handout.
