In this “owl themed” unit I have included the 80 words that my firsties need to learn, plus I have added quite a few more words that we encounter frequently when using colors, numbers, shapes, math, and following directions.
Copy 2 sets of words on card stock, cut out and laminate for durability. One set is to hang on your word wall, the other can be used as flash cards, or any type of game you can think of for practice, especially during center work, individually or small group.
I have provided the tree and the owl for a bulletin board display, but they would need to be enlarged, or drawn bigger for that purpose. the finished bulletin board would look like the cover picture in this packet, adding “leaves” as you teach the words.
Also included are blank leaf cards in case you have your own words you would like to add. And... the little poem is something I made up for my kids, and we chant it when we are going to add sight works/High Frequency Words cards to our “Know-It-All,” The Wise Owl Tree because they have learned them!
