Common Core Aligned: Free Compare and Contrast Graphic Organizer for Any Subject and Any Topic
This very simple, one-page graphic organizer has become one of the best study and review techniques that I use in my biology classes. It forces students to think deeply about two topics or concepts as they search to find the similarities and differences between them. Students are better able to organize information to see the relationships between two concepts.
I use this graphic organize to have students compare and contrast:
1. Photosynthesis and respiration
2. Mitosis and Meiosis
3. Protostomes and deuterostomes
4. Vascular plants and nonvascular plants
5. Prokaryotes and eukaryotes
6. Various animal phyla
7. Systems of the body
I keep a stack of these copied and ready to pass out to my students, and use them whenever a suitable opportunity arises.
This document is suitable for all subject areas and can be used by students in grades 4 and higher.
