Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

Grades K-6
Celebrating Hispanic Heritage month in your classroom? This free decorative banner will surely highlight your students' reading and writing activities during Hispanic Heritage Month. The freebie is at the end of this blog post - but I hope you will stop and read some of the fun activities your students can engage in to commemorate the Hispanic and Latino Americans who have made significant contributions to all avenues of society.
It would be enlightening for students to know all about the contributions of as many Hispanic and Latino Americans as possible, so reasearching facts to write a biography would be the best way to go.
Each student can choose to conduct research on their favorite Hispanic of choice. Students can use a research flipbook to document their findings. The templates cleverly scaffold each stage of the research writing process.
Best of all text in the flipbook templates is editable, so you can modify to suit your learners' needs.
If you would like to link grammar to a social studies lesson, then the 'Hispanic Heritage Parts of Speech Scavenger Hunt' is a fun activity. Students read factual information on a Hispanic American and identify the part of speech (noun, verb, adverb etc ) of a given underlined word.
This serves a dual purpose in a way - not only are students assimilating information on a Hispanic American, but also the grammatical concept is being used in context.
And finally, what better way to display students' work but with an eye-catching decorative banner.
The bunting flags for this free banner may read: Hispanic Heritage Month or Hispanic Americans. There are also decorative flags featuring 12 Hispanic Americans and their time period.
The 12 prominent Hispanic and Latino Americans featured in the bunting flags (in alphabetical order) are:
- Anthony Romero
- Bob Menendez
- Cesar Chavez
- Isabel Allende
- Jose Feliciano
- Loreta Janeta
- Marco Rubio
- Oscar De La Hoya
- Rita Moreno
- Roberto Clemente
- Selena Gomez
- Sonia Sotomayor
