Kindergarten - 2nd Grade
These are excellent games for your literacy workstation. The first is designed to be played in partners but could easily be played in a group of 3. Each student needs their own copy of the laminated game board and dry erase marker. The teacher will need to assemble the die beforehand. Students roll the die, if they can make a word using the letter they rolled, they write it on their board. Play passes to the next person. If the student is unable to make a word with the letter rolled, play passes to the next person. The player to complete their game board first is the winner. A student response sheet is also included. The second game is a partner game. Players roll a dice, read the word and cover the space with their token. The first player to use all tokens is the winner. (Complete directions included in the game.)
Common Core Standards:
RF.1.2. Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes).
RF.2.3. Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.
