This product contains activities on geometric measurement (3.MD.8) that help 3rd grade students understand the meaning of perimeter. In the first activity they will find the perimeter given the measures of the sides of a polygon, and students will give the measure of a missing side when given the perimeter. The activity includes real-world problems.
In the second activity students discover that rectangles with the same perimeter can have different areas and that rectangles with the same area can have different perimeters.
A challenge problem is included which asks for the best way to build a pen for a baby duck if you have a certain amount of fence and you want the most area possible to be enclosed.
