This resource includes two real world application problems of areas involving rectangles.
Problem 1 has students determine the dimensions of a rectangle that would have the largest area with a given amount of fence. There is an extension activity with this problem.
In the second problem the students must find the area of a swimming pool which is a composite figure.
I think you will be pleased with the rigor of these problems. We can always use extra application problems!
