LANGUAGE ARTS ACTIVITY - "Oh, What a Character"

 "Oh, What a Character"

by Connie Casserly
Grades 6-12

"Oh, What a Character" cover
Here is a freebie product for students to explore character. For this activity, they must employ their critical and analytic thinking skills so they can see below the character's surface to the richer, deeper person who lies under their skin. The issue that they must address is, “Who is this person behind their public faces and in their souls”?

This four-page activity includes a Teacher Notes page that includes the Common Core Standards and Bloom's Taxonomy points that are addressed in this activity as well as the Who, What, When, Why and How aspects teachers need to lead this lesson.

A detailed explanation for teaching character can be found on my blog: http://teachitwrite.blogspot.com/2013/03/oh-what-character.html

FREE MISC. LESSON - “Evaluate the Teacher”

by Alicia Lykins
3rd - 10th Grade

Wouldn't your kids have fun giving YOU a grade?

This is a quick form for kids to fill out letting you know how they feel about how the class is going. It gives them a chance to feel like their voice is being heard and gives us a chance to hear from those kids that may not always speak up. Plus it is a great way to find out about the climate of your classroom and allows us to step back and reevaluate our procedures and practices.

LANGUAGE & SOCIAL SKILLS:
Planning a Mardi Gras Party!

by Daria O'Brien
3rd thru 8th Grades

Planning social get-togethers requires perspective taking and social skills as well as executive function skills.  In other words "social smarts" and "planning/organizing smarts"!
This 29 page packet includes functional activities to address not only social skills but language skills, including:

  • Vocabulary
  • Sequencing
  • Writing

I went with a unique Mardi Gras theme.  After all, by this time of year we are all ready for some fun, and learning about the Mardi Gras celebration adds to my students knowledge base!

have fun helping your students plan and execute their Mardi Gras party and  “laissez les bons temps rouler (let the good times roll)!
