FREE SOCIAL STUDIES LESSON - “Latitude and Longitude Map Skills”

by Mary Brown
3rd - 5th Grade

Your students will need to read nonfiction texts online to complete this printable practice worksheet. It requires skills such as context clues and summarizing.

Using Common Core as a basis for the worksheet, I also integrated map skills and technology.

This sheet does include an answer key and a snapshot of the website just in case the internet is down when you are trying to do this lesson. We all know how lovely that can be!

Thank you for viewing. Please check out my other products. Many of which require students to read and understand the text using online resources.

"Accelerated Reader Color-Coded AND Book Level Labels"

by Victoria Leon
Kindergarten - 12th Grade

Use Avery labels to color-code AND display the book level and points on the spines of your Accelerated Reader classroom library books, book sets, and school library books. Having students see the actual book level on the colored label is better than just seeing colored dots.

I have created book level labels from 0.1 - 24.0 BL and point labels from 0.5 - 179.0 PTS.   Even though some of these labels are currently not in use, I wanted them available just in case you may need it in the future.

MAC and Microsoft Word users are able to edit the book level and point pages so that a label may be created for a particular Accelerated Reader book. I have also grouped the book level labels and point labels in six different ways to help you decide if it is better to print the page which has 6 sets of 3.0 - 3.9 BL labels or print the page which has 15 sets of 3.0, 3.1, 3.2, & 3.3 BL labels or print the page which has 1 copy each of labels 0.1 - 6.0 BL.

Use Avery labels to color-code the book levels. For example, at my school I used red - 1st grade, purple - 2nd grade, yellow - 3rd grade, orange - 4th grade, green - 5th grade, and blue - 6th grade & above.

You may also use other color-coded file labels from a variety of companies. Just be sure that the labels are compatible with the sizes of the Avery labels (2/3" X 3 7/16" for the book level labels and 1" X 2 5/8" for the point labels.)

Print the point labels using neon yellow, magenta, and green labels to differentiate which Accelerated Reader books are from your classroom library, core literature book sets, and the school library. The point labels inform the students how many points they may receive for that particular book, while at the same time, the neon labels are so bright that I can easily see which Accelerated Reader books are from my classroom library and which books belong to the school library.

I have also included color-coded book level headings which you may display on your bookshelves or book bins. MAC Pages and Microsoft Word users may edit the headings.   By using these color-coded Accelerated Reader book levels, students may quickly and easily find their exact book level.

The labels are formatted for only MAC and Microsoft Word users. Please be sure to test the template with plain paper before you print the actual labels.

IF YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO OPEN THE FILES OR PRINT THE LABELS CORRECTLY, please email me at vleon999@yahoo.com. Be sure to include your buyer's name and email address. I will then email the files to you.

Feel free to e-mail me at vleon999@yahoo.com if you have any questions or concerns.

Have fun,
Victoria Leon

FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “How to Make the S Sound - Spaghetti Clues!”

by Kathy Babineau
Kindergarten - 3rd Grade

The S sound is such a tricky one for so many of our early elementary students to pronounce! At my school, I have some wonderful teachers who welcome me (the speech therapist) into the class to teach quick lessons to all of the kids! One of my favorite things to do is mini articulation lessons.

In this freebie, I've included a quick description of a mini-lesson for teaching the S sound the classroom, a poster, and a worksheet. There are so many touch cues and verbal cues, but this is what has worked for me.
I hope you like it!

Contents:
*Quick lesson plan
*List of S words (initial, medial and final)
*Poster
*Spaghetti worksheet.

FREE MISC. LESSON - “Printables: A Summer Bucket List”

by  Connie
1st - 12th Grade

This handout guarantees that children will keep their minds and bodies active and alert during their summer vacation. The plus is - they won't feel like they are completing an assignment or doing a task related to school while they keep their comprehension and their analytic and creative thinking and writing skills fresh. Although this list is best suited for children in grades 5-12, third and fourth graders will find activities that fit their abilities and skill levels, too. Many 6-10 year olds I know blow me away with their ability to text, use a computer or a digital or Smartphone camera, play an instrument and cook, so they will find a number of suggestions to choose from. Ideas 8, 10 and 11 are more fitted to older children, though. Idea 13 is great for kids in grades 1-8. Using simple household supplies they can have fun with science experiments while learning chemistry, biology, physics, and much more. Some parental guidance will probably be necessary with the younger kids. Tell the children and parents about this terrific book to use: The Everything Kids Science Experiments Book by Tom Robinson for $8.95 ($6.12 Kindle edition). They don't have to spend money on a book unless they want to, though. They can probably find similar books at the library. Best of all, they will find activities on-line using the search terms: kids science experiments.

Be sure to give the handout to students before the end of the school year. Maybe, follow it up with a quick email to explain this activity to parents. They'll be thrilled with some ideas to ward off the "I'm bored," grumblings. This list ensures that young people will have a lot to show and talk about in September when their next year's teachers ask, "What did you do this summer?"

FREE MATH LESSON - “Complementary and Supplementary Angles Practice”

by Ana Zuniga
7th-12th Grade

This is a 5 page PDF document on complementary and supplementary angles for advanced 7th and 8th grade students and all 9th - 12th students. Many students have a hard time remembering the difference between complementary and supplementary angles; i.e. which one adds up to 90 degrees, etc. Included is an eye-catching poster can be added to your word wall so that they remember that just like in the alphabet C comes before S, 90 comes before 180 so complementary angles add up to 90 and supplementary to 180 degrees. Also included is a one page practice worksheet with answer key, a Bellringer consisting of two questions, and an Exit Slip.
