FREE MISC. LESSON - New Year Goals and Memories Craftivity (Freebie)

by Being Inspired
Kindergarten - 3rd Grade

The beginning of a new year is a great time to teach reflection and goal setting skills.

Included in the pack are:
- Drawing and writing worksheets for memories and goals.
- Star craftivity for memories from 2012 (with 3 different drawing and writing options for easy differentiation).
- Star craftivity for goals for 2013 (with 3 different drawing and writing options for easy differentiation).

This activity has been designed to be used after a reflection upon everything that has happened and everything your students have achieved in 2012. I use think, pair, share to ensure each child is fully participating. First they think to themselves, then they discuss it with their partner and then you call upon a few children to share either their or their partner's memories. Then they can complete the drawing and writing activity. Repeat this with the goal setting part of the craft, first discussing hopes and dreams for the new year and then using think, pair, share again.

Print on colored card or allow the children to lightly color the stars with pencils or crayons when they have finished writing. Once the stars have been completed and glued together, punch a hole in the top of each one and hang them with string in your classroom. Encourage the children to refer to their goals throughout the remaining school year and reflect upon their successes before the summer holidays.

There are different drawing and writing requirements on each star so you can choose the ones that best suit the abilities of your individual students.

Children practice letter identification and fine motor skills as they find capital and lower case letters in the maze. This little activity focuses on the letters S and P and makes a cute addition to your literacy centers during the holidays. Print and laminate the sheets and allow children to complete the trail through the maze using erasable whiteboard markers or print out one for each child and have them color in each square that has the correct letter in it.

FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas - I Have Who Has {Freebie}”

by MrHughes
3rd - 7th Grade

Who hasn't heard the classic poem "A Visit from St. Nicholas" by Clement C. Moore?

This fun and interactive activity will have your students begging to play again and again as they try to beat their best time by reading fluently and more quickly each time.

The poem has been divided into 28 cards in a "I have, Who Has" fashion. Students will have to listen carefully as they only get the 3 or 4 words in poem ahead of their lines. I have also listed several alternate ways to enjoy the included cards.

I have used this activity for over 10 years in my classroom and my students have loved it every year. I am offering it as a free resource as my Holiday gift to you!

Enjoy and please remember to rate this resource.

Happy Reading and Listening,
MrHughes

FREE MATH LESSON - “Regrouping Using American Money”

by Diamond Mom
2nd - 3rd Grade

Regrouping is a difficult concept for some children to understand. Using manipulatives helps, but I find that using money makes it easier for the children to visualize the exchange of ones, tens and hundreds.
It also connects them with real examples of Math in their world.

When referring to trading ones for tens and tens for hundreds, I tell the students that they need to go to the bank. They need to deposit their pennies and get a dime or deposit their dimes and get a dollar.

When referring to changing a ten into ones, I use the analogy of going to the bank and trading a dime for 10 pennies.

FREE MISC. LESSON - “Behavior Basics: Social Scenarios”

by Lynn Hubbell
5th - 12th Grade

"Social Scenarios" is a packet of skill building activity cards designed to help students develop strategies for responding to others in an appropriate manner. Students with social skill deficits tend to have more negative interactions with others. They often have difficulty interpreting social cues and can be inflexible in their desire to have things a certain way. This can make navigating the social landscape very difficult at school. "Social Scenarios" present challenging vignettes set within the school setting which call upon the student to apply conflict resolution and problem solving skills to resolve. Suggested responses are included as are ideas for using the cards within the classroom. These cards can be used for individual and group instruction and are ideal for use in social skills groups.

The five page skill building packet includes:
9 Social Scenario cards
9 suggested response cards
9 Answer Key cards with picture prompts

FREE MISC. LESSON - “Winter Candy Scenes”

by Downeast Teach
1st - 6th Grade

This has become an annual tradition in my 4th grade classroom. We are not really supposed to have a holiday party, so years ago I started making Winter Candy Scenes with my students instead. They all bring in ingredients to share and I ask for parent volunteers. This ends up being one of my students’ favorite memories of 4th grade.

You will receive a pdf file with photos of candy scenes created by my students, tips and suggestions, and an editable word document to send home to parents.

Enjoy!
Cathy
